Qatar University ExxonMobil Teachers Academy holds luncheon to honor participating teachers

The Qatar University ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is a week-long intensive professional development program that is held in Doha on an annual basis. The program is headed by a group of education experts from Qatar and the U.S. who support the math and science teachers from Qatar’s independent schools and a number of other education-based institutions to sharpen their skills and improve their ability to teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects. The overall purpose of the academy is to provide the teachers with the necessary skills to spark student interest and confidence in these areas by providing excellent instruction and hands-on application opportunities in their classrooms. 

This year’s academy included around 40 third to sixth grade independent school teachers, six Teach For Qatar (TFQ) fellows and four teachers from Maharaty - an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Additionally, around 10 Supervisors form Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Maharaty and Teach for Qatar attended the full week workshop. 

Mr. Abdullatif Al Naemi, Human Resources Manager at ExxonMobil Qatar and Dr. Abdallah Abu Tineh, Director of National Center for Educational Development- NCED, Associate Professor of Educational Leadership & HRD at Qatar University College of Education attended the luncheon, together with several representatives from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Qatar University. During the luncheon, participating teachers and faculty members were recognized for their hard work and dedication. 

“Today we are celebrating another year of the Qatar University ExxonMobil Teachers Academy’s success in providing a unique professional development opportunity for teachers from Qatar’s independent schools and our partner organizations,” said Abdullatif Al Naemi, Human Resources Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar. “I would like to thank the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Qatar University for their ongoing support – by end of this year training, today, we have trained more than 250 teachers and in turn impacted and inspired more than 10,000 students in Qatar’s independent schools. This is an incredible learning return on our educational investment, and one we are very proud of.” 

“To be relevant, education must provide young people with the necessary knowledge and skills to become responsible global citizens – this is what we hope to achieve through the academy. We want to help create a workforce for Qatar that can think critically; solve problems and be innovative. These are all core competencies that meet the needs of a 21st-century marketplace, and will contribute to building a bright and sustainable future for Qatar and its people,” added Al Naemi.
